Elder Mortensen with Sister Finley's grandson in Spanish Town

Brother and Sister Nelson on the left and Sister Davis (the Relief Society President) on the right. Taken in  the Nelson's front yard with their Christmas tree.

Elder Mortensen with Alex Lewis (from Linstead Branch) on the scout tower they built out of bamboo and rope. It was a mutual activity for the young men and young women

This is the same sugar cane that the hurricane flattened about a month ago. It is recovering well. Harvesting will start in January
We have lots of experiences every day here in Jamaica. Yesterday we found one of the less active members that we had been trying to locate for several weeks. She is 39 years old and has 4 children. She joined the church about 15 years ago and her oldest daughter was baptized, but the father of her children (here in Jamaica called baby daddy) didn't like her going to church so he burned all of her church clothes. Her grandma said maybe it would be best if she stayed away from church for awhile to see if she could get along with him better. It didn't work as he continued to be very abusive. That is why she has been so hard to locate. She changes her phone number often. In fact she just changed it 2 weeks ago again. She wondered how we found her. We told her the spirit led us to her. We just visited her out in her yard (typical in Jamaica)  and after starting with a prayer the spirit was very strong. We reviewed the plan of salvation with her as she had a question about baptism for the dead. We told her about Christ visiting the spirit world after his death and  before His resurrection. We talked about the last few verses of D&C 138 and how people are waiting for us to get their temple work done before they can progress. We also talked about 1 Corinthians 15:29. She now understood the meaning of baptism for the dead, and was in tears about coming back to church.  It was a special moment when she offered the closing prayer. We hope that we will see her Sunday.
